About Us
WE ARE AFSCME
The American Federation of State County Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has 1.6 million members nationwide, and in Nevada, represents more than 17,000 state workers.
As state employees, we work everywhere our communities need us. We are state employees, and we work everywhere our communities need us. We are corrections officers, nurses, social service workers, sanitation workers, engineers, administrative support, snowplow drivers, park rangers, and so much more. The people of Nevada depend on us every day. We’re proud of the work we do.
We take care of people in hospitals, nursing homes, group homes, mental health care facilities and in their own homes.
We provide transportation, sanitation and public works to our state. We support the educational mission of universities and community colleges. We protect health and safety.
We design, build and maintain the infrastructure we all depend on every day. We help people get back on their feet with access to work, housing, job training, and healthcare resources.
We fighting to set the standards of our pay, benefits and working conditions by coming together to negotiate for strong contracts through collective bargaining. We fight for justice in the workplace and in our communities. We negotiate not just for ourselves and our families but to meet the needs of the people we serve. We stand for excellence in public service.
We are proud of the work we do and we believe that all workers engaged in public service deserve fair wages, good benefits and a secure retirement, as well as a voice on the job. Public services matter.
