STATE EMPLOYEES ON THE ELECTION OF PRO-WORKER CANDIDATES STEVE SISOLAK AS GOVERNOR AND JACKIE ROSEN AS SENATOR

Las Vegas — The following statement is from Harry Schiffman, President of AFSCME Local 4041, the Nevada state employees union.

Yesterday was an important day for Nevada state employees.

In helping to elect pro-worker Steve Sisolak and Jackie Rosen, we will now have a governor and senator who understands the importance of strong state services, and who respects the commitment and dedication of the thousands of men and women who keep Nevada running.

State employees are the only public service workers in Nevada without collective bargaining rights. We look forward to working with Governor-elect Sisolak, Senator Rosen, and the state legislature to change that by passing legislation that gives state workers a voice on the job.

We celebrate this victory today. And then we get right back to work. Hundreds of state workers will come together later this month in a historic conference (Rally in the Valley on Nov. 16 – 18) where we’ll take the next steps on the road to collective bargaining and improving state services and jobs.
