To slow the curve of COVID-19, state offices across Nevada have closed to the public and services put on continent workplans. While the physical offices may be closed to the public, essential services remain available to Nevadans, including Medicaid services.

State Medicaid office continue to process claims and employees like Loren Warner, an administrative assistant and member of AFSCME Local 4041, continue to help Nevadans with their Medicaid questions.

“At the moment, we are focused on call center duties and helping Nevadans with questions they may have on Medicaid coverage and services,” said Loren.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, Loren sees access to health care as a critical need for the communities he serves.

The stakes are high during a national crisis, and it lands on those of us in the health care field. We are working with a smaller team, but we are doing our best to make sure people get correct information and access to health care,” said Loren.

Over the last month, Nevada saw a sharp increase of workers file for unemployment insurance, as many businesses complied with the state’s 30-day moratorium on non-essential businesses. In response, the state of Nevada recently opened the state’s health exchange for an emergency enrollment period until April 15. This allows eligible uninsured Nevadans to opportunity to apply for health insurance or enroll in the state Medicaid program.

“I am proud of this work; the public deserves good services and my co-workers and I are still able to provide that during these challenging times. I still come in and do my job because I just want people to have access to care,” said Loren.
