AFSCME Contract win at Truckee Meadows Community College

Our union contract is not an ending – it's our beginning. Holding the employer accountable for the rights and benefits we fought for and won in our contract is our responsibility as union members.
Over the summer, management at Truckee Meadows Community College implements summer hours, changing the workday to earlier and later shifts for our union siblings. Our union contract is clear on shift differential pay for hours worked outside of 7am - 6pm.
A union steward brought this issue to management’s attention regarding our siblings not being paid correctly per our contract, and we won!
TMCC workers who worked hours before 7am or after 6pm will get back pay going back to July 1, 2023.
“It makes me feel good to know our union steward truly cares for us and was willing to work with us to fight for what we deserve. It’s important to me that my coworkers and I receive pay that reflects the sacrifices we make in giving up time with our families to work early in the morning or late at night,”
Sarah Freshner, AFSCME member and food service worker, supervisor II at TMCC.
