AFSCME members kick off election engagement

Despite the heat, dozens of AFSCME members have spent the last few weeks building our political power, joining Attorney General Aaron Ford and other Nevada candidates in Las Vegas and Carson City as we kick off the election season.  

“Politics affects our jobs and lives more than we think, especially as public service workers. Legislators and the governor decide how taxes are spent, and that includes how much goes into the important public services we provide as state employees. We need to make sure voters know about candidates who will prioritize our communities and invest in Nevadans. That’s why I’m volunteering with my union AFSCME to talk to voters,” Patricia Reyes-Parra, AFSCME member and motor vehicle inspector II. 

AFSCME members can count on Aaron Ford to support our union contracts, to protect public services, and to address the affordability crisis that we all find ourselves in.  

How do we know this? Because Aaron Ford is the only candidate for governor who has voted in support of our union contracts, taken on the Trump administration’s attacks on public services, and doesn’t think Nevadans should “feel the pain” of rising food and gas prices.  

“As public employees, who is governor matters, because they set the agenda on public services. Aaron Ford has shown up for state employees as attorney general and as a candidate for governor. He listens to our concerns and wants to work with us as union members to make improvements to public services,” said PatriciacWith a good, union job in public service, it shouldn’t feel this hard to get by. That’s why this election is important and why we can’t wait until November to start thinking about who will serve Nevada best as governor.
